Already, an environmentally respectful Audubon Center graces the banks of the Trinity River where once an
illegal dump ground stood. A world-class interpretive
and equestrian center is soon to follow at a nearby
point along the meandering waterway.
Soon, spectacular bridges iconic in their design
will gracefully transport motorists across the Trinity River
at two locations. And a landscaped parkway hugging the river’s northern edge will both relieve congestion
in downtown Dallas and allow those traveling through our city
to enjoy the panorama of adjacent parklands.
In coming years, a floodway extension project will reduce the flooding risk for about 12,500 structures in
downtown Dallas and the populated areas along the southern corridor.
And, when completed, seven wetland cells will
make up the 170-acre Chain of Wetlands extending four miles
from Cedar Creek to Loop 12. Various plant species will be introduced
to provide habitat for waterfowl, fish and other wildlife.
You’ll be able to navigate a whitewater course on
one segment of the river, play soccer in another, stroll along
a lovely-lit, riverside promenade or bike along
the Trinity Strand Trail.
This is the exciting potential the Trinity River possesses for
the millions of people who live in, and visit, Dallas.
The Trinity Commons Foundation is dedicated to ensuring this
vision comes to fruition.
